Our Father Prayer

Our Father Prayer

Together with kindness and in understanding, let’s take this time to self reflect. I am here to inspire, encourage, and remind you that God has given us the most important weapon we have to fight the enemy, his Word.

Now let us dress our soul like we dress our bodies, EVERYDAY!

Our Father Prayer

“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” Mathew 6:9-13 KJV

This is the model prayer that Jesus taught his disciples.  Looking deeper into what prayer is in my own personal life, I see relationship. Confidently I can always come to the Lord with everything I got. Most of my life I have been talking to Jesus and even with all my talking, I needed to do more listening. However, I learned how invaluable prayer has been in my life. Prayer does make a difference.

Prayer is anywhere; in the closet, you’re comfortable chair, riding in the car, washing a few dishes, folding up clothes in the laundry basket, or that nature walk you love to do. He is listening. All we have to do is talk with him, be still, and wait on his response.

Looking at the Our Father prayer, I am reminded from the beginning who he is to me, he is my Father. Hallowed be thy name. To Hallow something means to make it holy or separate it or sanctify it. It is the focus of where I should turn my attention. Thy kingdom come, reminding me of the importance of praying about Gods plan over my lives. He is my daily bread, and I am encouraged to ask God for the things I need. If he takes care of every sparrows, how much more will he give to me? The prayer reminds me of the necessity of not only being forgiven, but the power of forgiveness. The conclusion of the Lord’s Prayer, lead us not to temptation, but deliver us from evil is a plea to achieve victory over sin and request protection from the enemies attacks.

Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV says, “ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Remember we are each others keeper and the only time we should be looking down on someone is when we are helping them up.

Sense of Humor

Sense of Humor

A Sense of Humor

“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Proverbs17:22 ESV

So what do you think friend? Do you think God has a sense of humor? The saying goes, God must have a sense of humor because he made us. I love to laugh, Lord knows I have laughed until I cried, with sore stomach muscles. In his Word he tells us that there is a season for everything, including laughter. A sense of humor has a way of lifting our spirits and those around us.

Sarah from the book of Genesis reminded herself that God had made laughter for her, and everyone who hears about her pregnancy in old age will laugh. What does it mean to have a sense of humor? The Dictionary defines it as the ability to perceive, enjoy or express what is comical or funny.

Let us keep in mind that we do serve a God who does things descent and in order. He does laugh at foolishness which should remind us not to waste our time on what is not productive in our lives. Fussing, fighting, feuding, about this or that drains our energy and peace of mind. If you’re like me, sometimes I laugh at myself, just as a reminder not to take life so seriously all the time. Life is full of challenges friends but we have the assurance that the Lord is with us no matter what. When I think of the fact that I am never alone, this scripture comes to mind from Psalm 144:15, “Happy are the people whose God is the Lord.” God is our true source of happiness, strength, hope and wisdom. Those who are in his favor will always have these things.

Remember we are each others keeper and the only time we should be looking down on someone is when we are helping them up.

Make a Joyful Noise

Make a Joyful Noise

Make a Joyful Noise

“Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: Come before his presence with singing.” Psalm 100:1-2 KJV

Wouldn’t you say that everyone loves music? I sure do. For me music speaks to this little old heart of mind. Music is joy, strength, courage, encouraging, love, and compassion. Music mimics every circumstance in the world. One of my favorite things about music is its color blind. It can expand our minds and confirm those realities we face. It can be a voice for the voiceless, sight to the blind, and hearing to the deaf.

Since music is such an important part of life, it should not be surprising that the Bible says much about it; in fact, the longest book in the Bible is its song book—Psalms. The first reference to a musician in the Bible is in Genesis 4:21. Jubal was the fourth generation from Adam through Cain and is recorded as “the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe.” Other early references to music include Exodus 15, which records Moses and the Israelites singing a song of victory after the overthrow of the Egyptian army in the Red Sea.  At that time, Moses’ sister, Miriam, led the Israelite women “with tambourines and dancing” as she sang. When Jephthah returned from battle, Jephthah’s daughter met him with timbrels and dance in Judges 11:34. David’s victories were also celebrated in song in 1 Samuel 18:6–7.

Two of the Old Testament’s most important figures wrote songs: Moses and David. David, “the sweet psalmist of Israel” (2 Samuel 23:1), is credited with writing about half of the 150 songs recorded in Psalms, along with some in the historical books. Music was used in conjunction with all manner of activities like, coronations, events in the royal court, and feast.

Both the Old and New Testaments address music and strongly support its use in worship. Music’s use in worship in the church today is valuable and can honor God in a special way. Music is a communication tool. It is how we show gratitude in our heart as we lift up our voices to given honor and praise to God.

Abide

Abide

I Am The Vine

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 NKJV

Jesus is described in this passage of scripture as the essential fruit of a Christian life. Staying connected to him is how we produce fruit. Whether it be on your job, starting your own company, finishing school or the volunteer work you are passionate about, connection to Jesus is vital to our success. In the scripture he tells us exactly who he is. Jesus says, “I am the vine.”  Jesus is our source for growth and a productive life. He also reminds us of our place in the scheme of things as we are the branches. We cannot do anything in our own strength. If we are cut off from the trunk of the tree of God, our branch will die.

As branches we need the pruning of Jesus. What does it mean to prune? The term means to cut away what is unwanted. Spiritual pruning enhances our growth as it removes what is keeping us from growing.  In John 15, Jesus tells us nine times to “abide.” The word abide means accept or act in accordance with (a rule, decision, or recommendation): It also means obey, observe, follow, keep, and hold.

Who is Jesus? He is the Vine, Bread of Life, Light of the World, Gate for the Sheep, Good Shepherd, Resurrection, the Way, and Truth.
