The Other Son

The Other Son

Together with kindness and in understanding, let’s take this time to self reflect. I am here to inspire, encourage, and remind you that God has given us the most important weapon we have to fight the enemy, his Word.

Now let’s dress our soul like we dress our bodies, EVERYDAY!

The Other Son

“Then He said: “A certain man had two sons.” Luke 15:11 NKJV

Oh, how I like to read about the parable of the Prodigal Son. The story characterizes the love of a forgiving father, who remains constant throughout the parable. Jesus sets the scene for us from the beginning as he says, “A certain man had two sons.” Let’s investigate shall we.

Starting with the younger son, we know his story, we’ve seen movie after movie, depicting foolish ambition to be independent, covetousness, and a lesson in the most valuable things in life are the things we cannot buy or replace. The story goes on to share that the younger son travels to a distant country. In this foreign land he squanders all his inheritance on selfish and shallow fulfillment that eventually leads to losing everything.

His financial disaster is followed by a natural disaster in the form of famine, which he never saw coming or planned for. At this point he hires himself out to a Gentile and finds himself feeding pigs. He was so hungry that he longed to eat the pig’s food. As he toils in the Pig pen, he came to his senses. It was at that point that he was going home to admit his sin and prepare to fall at his father’s feet and beg for mercy.

In the parable the father sees his son coming and was filled with compassion.  Can you hear him saying, “my boy’s home. Bring him the best robe, this is a sign of dignity and honor, Ring for his fingers, as a sign of authority and sonship, and Sandals for his feet.” Daddy didn’t stop there, as he orders the fattest calf to be prepared because they were going to party hardy in celebration of his sons return.

Now let’s turn our attention to the other son, who was obedient and never gave his father any trouble. In scripture we see him coming from the field, hearing loud music and saw dancing from afar. Can you hear him thinking out loud as he says, what we are celebrating today? He finds out from one of the servants that his youngest brother has come home, and what he was hearing was the sound of jubilation.

But what did the older brother do? He became angry and refuses to go into the house. It’s obvious that he wanted no part of this party, especially when he found out who the guest of honor was.  I can hear his thoughts in my imagination saying, “that brother of mine is selfish, reckless, and always giving our father the blues with his poor choices and demands. Who does he think he is telling daddy what he wants now! Why does he make such a big fuss about him coming home? I don’t see what’s so great about him showing back up! I don’t want to celebrate him. I wish he would just go back to where he came from.

But look at his father, who recognizes his eldest son’s displeasure, as he pleads with him to come in the house. We see this is the son’s chance to express out loud what his grievances are. He said, ‘Look, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command, yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your property with prostitutes, you killed the fattest calf for him!’ And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.’”

This reminds me of how God celebrates us when we come to salvation: from death to life, and from lost to found. When I think about it friends, isn’t that a reason to celebrate? It’s a new life, new way of doing things, new thoughts, and a whole new point view.

The son’s father shows them both compassion and understanding where they need it the most. Perhaps there is a deeper lesson to be learned for our star, the other son, one that requires him to think about important of forgiveness.  Yes, he was always following the rules. Yes, he made good choices that his family could be proud of. And yes, he didn’t give his daddy any trouble. Thinking deeper, John 2:9 comes to mind, it says, “anyone who claims to be in the light, but hates his brother is still in the dark.” Amen.

Remember we are each others keep, and the only time we should be looking down on someone is when we are helping them up.

GPS

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” Psalm 32″8 NIV

What does the term GPS stand for? It is a U.S. owned utility that provides users with positioning, navigation, and timing services called a Global Positioning System. For our purposes we will define GPS as Gods Positioning System. When I think of Gods position, I am reminded there is no where he can’t see or get to me in this world.

In this world with thousands of paths to choose, how can we know which way we should go? And what about if we get lost? Where should we go when we can’t fully see the road before us?  We look to God’s Word through faith and trust.  As we continue looking to the Lord for direction on this journey, he will take us where we have never been before.

As I apply the three “omni” to God’s Positioning System, I am reminded what an awesome God we serve.

Omnipotence means that God is in total control of himself and his creation. It’s nothing like knowing no matter where we go God is always with us.

Omniscience, means that he is the ultimate criterion of truth. You can rest assure where our God leads, he will provide.

Omnipresence means that since God’s power and knowledge extend to all parts of his creation he himself is present everywhere.

Life comes with plenty of challenges. The Lord is here to navigate us through the terrains of life. Will you let go, and let him take the wheel of your life? He has the power to get us where we are meant to be.

Remember we are each others keep, and the only time we should be looking down on someone is when we are helping them up.

Dear Mama

Dear Mama

Together with kindness and in understanding, let’s take this time to self reflect. I am here to inspire, encourage, and remind you that God has given us the most important weapon we have to fight the enemy, his Word.

Now let’s dress our soul like we dress our bodies, EVERYDAY!

Dear Mama

“Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that a your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’s children.” Deuteronomy 4:9 CEV

Mothers have one of the most influential and important jobs in the world, as well as one of the most difficult. We build homes that protect, provide peace, in a sacred space to rest our minds as well as our bodies from the outside world. We are always ready to help, we are excellent event planners, we teach as a living example, we safely chauffeur, and might I add we are great drivers, we know how to stretch a dollar, yes, we can reinvent just about anything, including our closets.  I shop in mine all the time, we make the best soups, that provides a healing touch through love, and we encourage our children to get in there, and change the world.

My Mama raised three girls; she cared about what’s in our hearts. She could hear if we were okay just by the sound of our voices. She looks beyond our faults, to see what we can be, that is the power of mama. Even with all the things she had to do, she seemed to always find time for us. These days when all of us girls get together with our mama, it’s laughter, plenty of smiles, talking, and good food. She continues to show us, the unconditional love, keeping us close to not only her, but each other.

Throughout His years of ministry on earth, Jesus included women—in word and action. He deemed us worthy of concern and healing, even when others didn’t. Our Savior refused to leave women to fend for themselves. He met us at the point of our needs, displaying His generous love and marvelous power. Here are some promises for moms to think on: you are loved, you are not condemned, you are included, you are accepted, you aren’t alone, you are wonderfully made, you are free, you are God’s, you are chosen, and you are no longer a slave to sin.

Women like: Jeal, Abigail, Esther, and Apphia are women mentioned in the Bible who are worthy of our attention. Their stories spring to life with encouragement, hope, and wisdom. Some are heroes, and others were prophets. All were women who had faith in God, their stories display His glory.

As we look around the world today, we see moms filling a variety of roles: Judges, educators, lawyers, doctors, journalist, scientist, business owners, state representatives, and yes, the vice president of the United States of America.

Remember we are each others keep, and the only time we should be looking down on someone is when we are helping them up.

Motivation

Now let’s dress our soul like we dress our bodies, EVERYDAY!

Motivation

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also the interest of others.” Philippians 2:3-4 NIV

When this journey began back in 2019, I had no idea what any of it meant or even where this was going to go.  I simply asked God to guide me with his eye. From pen to paper, came life, inspiration as I became a published writer, blogger, and host of my own podcast. These were unimaginable things I never saw myself doing. Who would have thought it?

I was asked- Why do you do this week after week and month after month. You blog, share scripture, provide amazing facts, and now you have your own podcast. You don’t even need prompting to get up to do the work. Between a full time job and life which I know you have, you still show up to share a message to inspire, encourage, and remind me and others how to fight for our lives-through his word. Whether it’s one person or ten, you just keep showing up-WHY?

Because I truly believe in what the Lord has given me. This journey has nothing to do with money for me, nor does it have anything to do with numbers, instead it is about the quality and care I put into doing these things for God. The truth be told, it’s nothing but by God’s grace and mercy, through the Holy Spirit that these things came to be.  I am inspired, to motivate and encourage “US” to stay faithful in the small things, to remember we have purpose, stay focus friends, keep going-we are going to make it, we can do all things through Christ who is our strength, and If God is for us- who can be against us?  I am an imperfect person, with the perfect mission. I am like that inquisitive child, who wants to learn more, share more, and do what He gives me, to the best of my spiritual ability.

Motivation is defined as “that which moves one toward an action; that which changes, provokes, or impels our very being.” The Bible has a great deal to say about motivation. For one thing, our sense of motivation or inspiration comes from God, not from the things of the world. David spoke of his motivation in his psalms: “I desire to do Your will, O my God; Your law is within my heart.” Later he wrote, “Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.”

Jesus set the example for our motivation in this life: He always did the Father’s will, motivated by pleasing Him through obedience. His obedience extended all the way to the cross where He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death. He tells us, “If you love me, keep my commandments.”

It wasn’t money, it wasn’t fame, nor was it being the best apostle that motivated Paul. It was living for Christ that superseded everything.  Our motivation as believers stems from a yearning to have peace with God, to have His grace as well as hope.

Remember we are each others keep, and the only time we should be looking down on someone is when we are helping them up.
