Our Father Prayer

“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” Mathew 6:9-13 KJV

This is the model prayer that Jesus taught his disciples.  Looking deeper into what prayer is in my own personal life, I see relationship. Confidently I can always come to the Lord with everything I got. Most of my life I have been talking to Jesus and even with all my talking, I needed to do more listening. However, I learned how invaluable prayer has been in my life. Prayer does make a difference.

Prayer is anywhere; in the closet, you’re comfortable chair, riding in the car, washing a few dishes, folding up clothes in the laundry basket, or that nature walk you love to do. He is listening. All we have to do is talk with him, be still, and wait on his response.

Looking at the Our Father prayer, I am reminded from the beginning who he is to me, he is my Father. Hallowed be thy name. To Hallow something means to make it holy or separate it or sanctify it. It is the focus of where I should turn my attention. Thy kingdom come, reminding me of the importance of praying about Gods plan over my lives. He is my daily bread, and I am encouraged to ask God for the things I need. If he takes care of every sparrows, how much more will he give to me? The prayer reminds me of the necessity of not only being forgiven, but the power of forgiveness. The conclusion of the Lord’s Prayer, lead us not to temptation, but deliver us from evil is a plea to achieve victory over sin and request protection from the enemies attacks.

Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV says, “ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Remember we are each others keeper and the only time we should be looking down on someone is when we are helping them up.
