Welcome to the Twilight Zone

Welcome to the Twilight Zone

Welcome to the Twilight Zone

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because he cares for you.” I Peter 5:7 NIV

It is a lot going on in the world today: war and conflict, natural disasters, Pandemics and plagues, moral and societal issues, greed to the tune of, for the love of money, and global interconnectedness. All of these things have people asking, will I be able to take care of my family? Where are the jobs? Are prices at the grocery store going to keep going up? Can I afford my medication? Are our schools safe? Can I afford to go to college? Do I really have job security? What, where and who is next? A lot of this stuff going on in the world today makes you feel like you’re in the twilight zone.

Speaking of the that, The Twilight Zone ran for five seasons on CBS from October 2, 1959, to June 18, 1964. The show dealt with characters who found themselves in often disturbing and unusual events. The show often made me go umm..

There are a lot of cool episodes, the top four for me are, let’s start with number four:

Nightmare at 20,000 feet, this stars William Shatner, outside his window on the flight home, from a six month stay in the hospital, spots a gremblin on the wing. In the end, the plane is forced to land, but when the technicians look at the plane, they are puzzled as to what could have  made all this damaged.

Number 3, The Howling Man, this episode starts with a man on a walking trip of post-world war I, he gets caught in a storm and comes across a remote monastery with a mysterious prisoner. Satan was locked in the prison with just a staff across his door. Satan played on the mans sympathy and ignorance of the man. The man ended up releasing him from his prison, turning him on the world. He shares his story with his house keep, telling her after many years he finally caught him and locked him away in a closet with a tiny staff at the door. His parting words to her, “don’t open that door.” But curiosity did what to the cat?

Number 2, The Masks, a dying rich man demands that his money-grubbing family wear mask for his final Mardi party. In the end he dies and the family now can claim their riches, as they remove their mask they look like the scary faces they put on, no doubt confining them to the house for life.

And finally, number 1, To Serve Man, the people of earth don’t know what to think of when a 9-foot-tall alien shares that they can wipe out hunger and bring global peace. All in the effort to serve man.  One of them leaves their book behind written in a language that can’t be read. But a lady is determined to decipher the title of the book, To Serve Man, in the meantime people from earth are making trips to the alien planet left and right. But what was that title all about, To Serve Man? Well, it’s a cookbook. Get it, to serve man.

What was unique about The Twilight Zone, was the writing, it kept you guessing. But unlike the show, the Word of God gives to believer’s assurance. Even when times are hard.

He is and remains in control of all things. He is our refuge in the mist of trouble; we can turn to him as our safe place. His promises are sure, and his love never ceases.

And when you feel like you’re in the twilight zone,

continue in prayer, anchor yourself in scripture, wait on him, God’s timing is perfect. Lean on and with your community. Those family and friends, who are also believing God will not only hear, but answer. The word says where two or three are gathered in my name I am in the mist.

Remember friends, we are each other’s keeper and the only time we should be looking down on someone is when we are helping them up.

Rich Man, Poor Man

Rich Man, Poor Man

Rich Man, Poor Man

“There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores.” Luke 16:19-21 ESV

Most of us are familiar with this Parable commonly known as the Rich Man and Lazarus. The story continues with the poor man who died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side and the rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham, far off and Lazarus at his side.

The word goes on to say that the rich man called out, “Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.” Abraham responded, “between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.”

At that point the Rich man said directing to Abraham, “then I beg you, father, to send him (Lazarus) to my father’s house, for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.”Abraham told him, “they have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. But the rich man from within his tormented place, said if someone goes to them from the dead they will repent.” But again, Abraham pointed out that if they won’t hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.

The passage emphasizes the importance of compassion and helping those in needs. I am my brother’s keeper. It also serves as a moral lesson of the consequences our earthly actions/choices and the eternal ramifications that will follow.

A few things I noticed about the passage:

  • The rich man recognized Abraham and Lazarus.
  • All of the rich man’s questions were answered by Abraham.
  • There was a Great Chasm, between the rich man, and Abraham and Lazarus.  The word Chasm is defined as an impassable barrier or a division between two things that cannot be crossed.
  • The rich man in all his torment and anguish, thought about his 5 brothers wanting them to get the message before it was too late.

This parable should inspire us to live with generosity, reminding us that love is the key, and it is a vital part of our Christian life. Let love be the perfect ingredient in all you do. It is nice to be nice, and it’s even sweeter when you are nice for real. In this life you do not know who you are going to need. Don’t burn your bridges.

Remember friends, we are each other’s keeper and the only time we should be looking down on someone is when we are helping them up.

What a Time!

What a Time!

What a Time!

“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” Psalm 127:3 NIV

Can you guess what I will be writing about today?  You guessed it, my visit to see my beautiful daughter Cherelle.

The chatter, the eating, the laughing, more eating, more chatter, more laughter, lots of great music as we drive to multiple locations, like these cool record shops, retro clothing stores, HEB grocery store which happens to be her favorite place to shop. It’s a big grocery store. We went on her live, talking about life, music, and the things that hold us together. She took the time to encourage others to check me out on my channels and to by my books. Let’s not forget we walked the dogs, and watching her superman show, Smallville. It is actually pretty good.

Before dozing off at the end of a fun mother/daughter day, I reflect on the fact that I didn’t do everything right; I made mistakes along the way; there wasn’t any how to be a mommy books around. But I thank God that he was around keeping us safe. And when I look into your eyes, I see all those possibilities come alive, living in and through you. And then I think to myself, not bad momma, not bad at all.

The scripture today is a reminder that our children are a reward from God. Sometimes you might not think so with those terrible twos and rambunctious teenage years. And then one day you look up, and your baby is all grown up, spreading their wings as they make the world. As parents we give thanks for the gifts of our children.

I know what my daughter does for me. She lifts me up, encourages me,  and reminds me I can do anything I put my mind too. We are each others cheerleader. She makes me smile in my heart, and I am so proud of all of her accomplishments. We share how are day is going and talk about what’s going on in the world. Yes you’re a homebody for now, but it won’t always be that way. Your knight in shining armor will come your way. But in the meantime beautiful daughter stay focus on your goals. Continue to protect your peace and love your Kingdom (those are her pets. Two dogs and a cat).

I can’t wait for the next visit, let’s start things off right with Friday, Saturday, and then I head back home after our Sunday brunch. Love Momma.
